IN A MOVE that has put major US telephone companies on
alert, Googles unveiled Thursday, a free service that will
revolutionize the telephone industry world wide. The service -
dubbed Google Voice, unifies your phone numbers, transcribe
your voice mail, blocks tele-marketers and elevates text messages
to First-Class communication citizens. And, that's just the warm up..!
Google Voice can be set to answer your calls - on a single or
multiple devices with different numbers depending on your
choice - meaning, you'd never miss your calls again, whether
someone call your at home, work, cell phone or any place
you decide. It will also send a transcript of all the calls you
make or receive to your Gmail box. If you are in mid-call and
another call arrive, you can put your caller on hold and answer
the incoming call. With this service, you can set different
ring tones or greetings to multiple incoming calls or have
Google Voice answer on your behalf with that cold-hearted voice:
"The number you have called, is no longer in service...." If you
are at home and someone call you on your cell phone - there's
no need to ask them to hang up and call your house number as
Google Voice will help you switch to the land line by just
pressing an asterisk *.
With the free transcription service, you can now search, sort, save,
forward, copy or paste any voice mail message received or made
on any of your numbers. Conference calling ? No problem - you
don't have to call Ma Bell or Verizon anymore to arrange this service.
Google Voice will provide it for free. You want to call your cousin
in Tanzania or Saudi Arabia ? Go ahead make that call. If you dial
your own Google Voice telephone number - from any device -
including cell phones, you'd be connected to Google international
lines that offer overseas rates at dirt-cheap price - lower than
even Skype Phone starting at 2 cents a minute.
