The Central Committee of Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), has suspended its member Mr Mecky Mzirai and sacked 15 other party members for gross indiscipline. The members had allegedly accused CHADEMA National Chairman Freeman Mbowe of misusing the party’s funds and of celebrating upon hearing the death of Mr Chacha Wangwe.
At a press conference in Dar es Salaam today shortly before the party’s Central Committee meeting, Secretary General of CHADEMA, Dr Wilbrod Slaa, said the party formed a committee led by Bob Makani, to establish the truth. He added that the committee also directed the suspended members to give their positions on the claims, both in writing and orally, but they failed to do so.
Dr Slaa said the committee recommended the members be sacked in accordance with the party’s regulations. He mentioned the sacked members as Abdul Mateleke, Mkwanji Maulidi, Mkubwa Wesu, Peter Katunka, Bakieni Shingo, Nasir Chimko, Abdel Keboneka and Zuberi Haji. Others are Kimaro T., Shabani Salum, Adam Yassin, Mwanahamisi Sadick, Said Malenjo, Hamis Msasa and Martin M’ng’ong’o.
He said other two members - Phillip Shilembi and Aidan Mdoa - apologized to the Central Committee and had been forgiven. Dr Slaa described the sacked members as terrorists, citing an incident in which they marched to the head office, claiming that Mr Mbowe was paralyzing the growth of the party.
All the sacked members, according to Dr Slaa, were from Dar es Salaam region. Meanwhile, Mr Mbowe urged the government to prepare a plan that would enable the country to have reliable power supply instead of emergency energy. Mr Mbowe made the remarks when officiating at the Central Commitee meeting in Dar es Salaam. He said it was unacceptable for the country to rely on emergency power while its economy continued to shrink.
