> Aug. 9, 2012 (Xinhua) -- The Mozambican government said the
> conclusion of border demarcation with Zambia will prevent
> conflicts between the two nations and in the region as a whole.
> The Mozambican Television (TVM) said Thursday that the two
> sides have just ended their project to check their common
> borders, the work started at the end of last year.
>
>
> Quoting Joaquim Bule, spokesperson for a meeting of the
> Mozambique-Zambia joint security commission in Mozambican
> capital Maputo since Wednesday, the TVM said one border site has
> not been resolved because of difficult access.
>
> He said it is a mountainous zone and border experts from
> the two countries could not be able to realize the work. "It is
> a 40 km stretch," he told the TVM. The border stretch already
> concluded concerns around 192 km.
>
> The decision to review the border question was taken after
> the Mozambican government discovered that many Zambians were
> invading Mozambique to have farms, as well as building homes,
> thus abandoning their home country.
>
> This also happens with Malawians, who are accused of having
> fields inside Mozambique.
>
> Bule said that the remaining border stretch with Zambia
> will be dealt with later this year. "It is a continuous work,
> which we will also do with other neighboring countries," he
> said.
> The Mozambican government has already concluded border
> demarcation with Tanzania and the Comoros.
>
> Malawi and Tanzania are in a border dispute at the moment,
> because Lilongwe has decided to go ahead with its project of gas
> and oil prospection on the Lake Malawi.
>
> According to the government of Tanzania, the project also
> covers the Tanzanian side of the lake. Lilongwe argues that
> there is no border line between Malawi and Tanzania on the lake.
>
> Tanzania is demanding a meeting with the Malawian
> government to discuss the matter, the demand was rejected by
> Malawi.
>
> Two days ago, the government of Tanzania threatened that it
> was ready for war with its neighbor if Lilongwe goes ahead with
> its project, usurping the Tanzanian land.
