Jubilant parliamentarians yesterday received 20 best candidates in February’s Form Six examinations when they were introduced to the House in Dodoma after the morning question & answer session.
The House honoured the best students with presents given to them by Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda. The candidates excelled in the 2012 Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE), whose results were released in February this year.
Amongst awards presented to them are certificates, laptops and cash (200,000/- each), as a gesture to recognise their achievement. The government also awarded 1m/- to every school where the best students graduated from.
The best students came from eight public schools and two private schools namely Marian Girls, Mzumbe, Feza Boys, Kibaha, Kilakala, Ifunda, Tabora Girls, Tabora Boys, Minaki and Mpwapwa.

The PM said most best students performed well in science subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geography, Biology and Agriculture.
The premier said the best candidates were introduced in Parliament to congratulate and appreciate their efforts in studying hard. “It is our hope that such a thing would also encourage other students to study hard and perform better in their final examinations,” the PM said.
Apart from commending the best candidates, the premier also hailed their teachers, suggesting best candidates “should be given more opportunities to pursue studies in world-class universities.”
PM also asked the best students to take the honour, as a challenge to improve their future education development. “We want you to excel in university education, so that when you graduate there you will contribute to the country’s socio-economic development,” he said.
Earlier, Minister for Education and Vocational Training Dr Shukuru Kawambwa informed the House that during the Form Six examinations held in February this year, a total of 44,190 students sat for the examinations, of whom 40,750, passed – with 35,201 scoring the first and second division.
