MPs honour best
Form 6 candidates

Jubilant
parliamentarians yesterday received 20 best candidates in February’s Form Six
examinations when they were introduced to the House in Dodoma after the morning
question & answer session.
The House honoured
the best students with presents given to them by Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda.
The candidates excelled in the 2012 Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (ACSEE), whose results were released in February this year.
Amongst awards
presented to them are certificates, laptops and cash (200,000/- each), as a
gesture to recognise their achievement. The government also awarded 1m/- to
every school where the best students graduated from.
The best students
came from eight public schools and two private schools namely Marian Girls,
Mzumbe, Feza Boys, Kibaha, Kilakala, Ifunda, Tabora Girls, Tabora Boys, Minaki
and Mpwapwa.
Names of
candidates are, Faith Assenga, Immaculata Mosha, Rachel Sigwajo, Mary Kiangi,
Nashivai Kivuyo, Everyne Mapunda and Neema Mapunda all from Marian Girls.
Others are Neema
Kiula (Kilakala), Ester Marcel (Ifunda), Prisca Longo
(Tabora Girls),
Zawadi Mdoe and Jamal Juma from Feza, Gwamaka Njobelo, Nickson Mwansojo and
Benson Maruchu from Mzumbe, Faridi Abdalla (Mpwapwa), Alex Isdor and Julius
Luvanga from Kibaha; and Brighton Lema from Tabora Boys.
The PM said most
best students performed well in science subjects - Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics, Geography, Biology and Agriculture.
The premier said
the best candidates were introduced in Parliament to congratulate and
appreciate their efforts in studying hard. “It is our hope that such a thing
would also encourage other students to study hard and perform better in their
final examinations,” the PM said.
Apart from
commending the best candidates, the premier also hailed their teachers,
suggesting best candidates “should be given more opportunities to pursue
studies in world-class universities.”
PM also asked the
best students to take the honour, as a challenge to improve their future
education development. “We want you to excel in university education, so that
when you graduate there you will contribute to the country’s socio-economic
development,” he said.
Earlier, Minister
for Education and Vocational Training Dr Shukuru Kawambwa informed the House
that during the Form Six examinations held in February this year, a total of
44,190 students sat for the examinations, of whom 40,750, passed – with 35,201
scoring the first and second division.
