The Tanzania Editors` Forum (TEF) has finally been registered by the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) as a company limited by guarantee.

TEF chairperson, Sakina Datoo told reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday that from now on the forum will be known as Tanzania Editors` Forum Company Limited.

She said the forum which was established in 2007 has been given registration number 69227.

Datoo who is also the Editorial Director of IPP print media said the idea of establishing the forum was mooted at one of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) summits after which it was implemented in different countries in east, central and southern Africa.

She said the main aim of the forum is to create a platform for editors in the country to discuss burning issues in the media industry.

She thanked the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) for supporting the initiative which eventually bore fruits yesterday.

The chairperson also said that the forum would ensure that the interests of the media practitioners as well as those of the public are given due attention.

``There are a number of issues pertaining to the media industry that the forum needs to work on to improve its day-to-day activities,`` she noted.

Referring to the company Act of 2002, the MCT Executive Secretary, Kajubi Mukajanga said that the forum will now have a guarantee of security and no one will be able to interfere with its activities, adding that with such registration, the governing system of the company will be better than before.

``This gives authority to the NGO to do its work without interference from either the government or an individual because this is not a Television, newspapers or radio station,`` he said.

Datoo clarified that not wanting interference from other parties does not mean that the forum will not abide by laws and regulations.

``TEF Company Limited has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Forum will never work against it,`` she stressed.
