MOSHI MAYOR IN TROUBLE FOR SLAPPING GUARD !

Moshi Mayor, Lameck Kaaya, yesterday appeared in court here charged with assault for slapping a municipal guard in March. Before Magistrate Geni Dudu, the mayor pleaded "not guilty" and was released on bail after signing a 300,000/- bond with the court.

The prosecution said investigation was incomplete and the case was adjourned to June 2, when it will be mentioned. Prosecuting, State Attorney, Ms Scolastica Lugongo, had earlier told the court that on March 16, at around 11:00am, at the Moshi Municipal Council, the accused slapped Christina Jeseph (26) on her cheeks.

Kaaya is defended by Professor Robert Msanga while the complainant has hired legal services of a Moshi-based seasoned lawyer, Ms Elizabeth Minde. Meanwhile, the complainant has alleged here that some of her key eyewitnesses, who are employees of the Council, have been threatened by their heads of departments not to testify against the accused person. When the Municipal Executive Director, Ms Bernadette Kinabo, was contacted to comment on the allegation, she said she was not aware of such threats.
