Half of Kisarawe Secondary School students are yet to report.

Fifty per cent of pupils in Kisarawe district, Coast region who were selected to pursue secondary education this year have not reported to their respective schools, it has been leant.The District Education Officer, Vivian Masangiya revealed this recently during a one day full council meeting held in Kisarawe town, saying the pupils failed to report to their respective schools for unknown reasons.
She said the pupils were supposed to report to their respective schools by February 15, this year but until February 13 only 50 per cent of them had reported.
“We have checked with the schools and found that only 50 per cent of the selected pupils have reported to the schools and the rest are not found due to unknown reasons,” she said.
According to survey, many of the children got stranded after their parents failed to afford school expenses and as a result some of them have left their villages for other places including Dar es Salaam with unknown mission.
A pupil of Kidugalo primary school who passed the examinations and preferred anonymity said that she left her village for Dar es Salaam to inform her father (who lives in Dar es Salaam) to make preparations for her to go to school but nothing has been done as of yet thus she kept staying idle at home in the city.
The District Education officer said that a total of 1,837 equivalents to 72.9 per cent out of 2,518 pupils who sat for the exam were selected to join secondary schools after having passed the exam.
The district’s performance went down by one per cent this year compared to last year’s results whereby 73 per cent of students passed the exam.
Three schools of Mloganzila, Chanzige B and Bembeza were among the top ten in the region. The region has six districts of Kisarawe, Bagamoyo, Rufiji, Mkuranga, Mafia, Kibaha and Kibaha town council.
Top ten schools at district level were Bembeza, Chanzige B, Mloganzila, St Docas, Thomas More, Kibasila, Chanzige A, Kikwete, Kidugalo and Maguruwe. The district has about 80 primary schools.
